CLIFTON PARK — Norman L. Ness, 89, a resident of Schuyler Ridge and formerly of Lake Placid and St. James, Long Island, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at Schuyler Ridge Residential Health Care.
Born on Jan 4, 1919 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Jack and Frances Platt Ness. He was a graduate of Savage College of Physical Education where he received a bachelor’s degree. He later graduated from Columbia University, where he received his master’s degree in physical education.
He was a World War II Army veteran who fought in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945. Norman taught physical education for 30 years in Brentwood. He also worked at both Kings Park State Hospital and Northport’s Veterans Hospital for many, many years.
He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte Engle Ness; two loving daughters: Nancy Ness Lewis and her husband Kenny Lewis and Laurie Barrett and her partner Brent Dupris; four grandchildren: Jamie Ness, Jennifer Fortune-Gras and husband Mathew Gras, Philip and Brandon Barrett; and one great-granddaughter Chloe Charlotte Gras — all of Clifton Park.
The family would like to sincerely thank all of the wonderful staff at Schuyler Ridge that made their father’s journey a peaceful one. The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
