Chances are if you are residing in, or visiting, the Adirondacks you have a love for the outdoors and may have even captured a couple unique Adirondack experiences on your video camera. Well, now is your chance to share those wonderful moments with the world and maybe even win some cool gear.

The Adirondack Regional Tourism Council and W.L. Gore & Associates, inventors of Gore-Tex and Windstopper fabrics, are currently hosting an online video contest entitled “My Places in the Adirondacks.”

The My Places contest features four categories of submission: wildlife and pets; scenic beauty; family and friends; and recreation. The deadline for submission is Oct. 31, and on Nov. 7 a finalist from each of the four categories will be chosen for a chance to compete to be the grand prize winner. Then, from Nov. 7 through Nov. 21, the public will have a chance to vote on their favorite of the four finalist videos, with the winner receiving $500 in Gore-Tex products, a great prize for any Adirondack adventurer. Right now, you can view, vote on and be inspired by the already-submitted videos at www.visitadirondacks.com.

This is not the first time the ARTC and Gore have partnered for a contest. This past winter the duo hosted a photo contest, images of which can still be viewed at www.visitadirondacks.com.

“For our photo contest, we received more than 2,000 images showcasing everything from a sunset to a snowy mountain pass,” Adirondack Regional Tourism Council Executive Director Ron Ofner said. “I’m excited to see the creative ways in which visitors and residents capture their Adirondack moments on film. If a picture says a thousands words, then surely a video tells the whole story.”

Each video submission should be no longer than 2 minutes in length and should fit into one of the four categories. You must be 14 years of age or older to submit. The deadline for entries is Oct. 31.

Ofner and the ARTC plan to create new and exciting contests for each season: “We are always looking for exciting ways to promote our region, both internally and to the outside world. These contests give residents and tourists an outlet to show ‘real things’ as they happen in their natural environment, many of which are occurrences people who, having never been to the Adirondacks, would not have an opportunity to experience.”

The next contest on the ARTC’s agenda is a hunting photo contest this fall. The contest is broken down into three categories: Trophy Photos; Camp Life; and Hunters in the Field. So if you are a hunter, be sure to arm yourself with a camera this fall and submit any hunting images to www.visitadirondack.com. Deadline for the contest will be Dec. 1.

Ofner added, “It is our wish that this video contest and the upcoming hunting contest bring out not only the same quantity of submissions but also the same quality. It is amazing the amateur talent that reveals itself in each of our contests.”
