Top volunteers of 2008 named

Vincent Forrest takes top honor


LAKE PLACID — Seven local volunteers — five adults and two students — were nominated for the 2008 Distinguished Volunteer of the Year.

Vincent Forrest, who won the award for the adults, said he sees volunteering as a social responsibility.

“Nothing makes me happier,” he said.

Lake Placid High School freshman Scott Pedu won the Youth Volunteer of the Year.

A tree-planting ceremony at Peacock Park in honor of all volunteers kicked off the Saturday afternoon’s festivities.

Other nominees honored at Saturday’s event at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts include: Bill Billerman, Bob Hanna, Peggy Moore, Steve Preston and Mary Kate Graham.
