Winners of the 17th annual Ice Out benefit announced
LAKE PLACID — The winners of the 17th annual Ice Out benefit were recently announced.
The ice was declared out of Mirror Lake at 2:44 p.m. Monday, April 21 by ice meisters Jenn Holdereid and Bob Crowley.
Tied for first place were Amanda Ferguson and Carol Nevulis, 14 minutes off the actual ice-out time. In third place was Maggie Dennin, 16 minutes off; fourth place Pat Kadzius, 21 minutes off; and in fifth place was Paul Reiss, 22 minutes off.
The ice was declared out of Lake Placid at 11:37 a.m. Saturday, April 26 by ice meisters Chris Hansen and Jane Bacon.
In first, Scott Merchant, seven minutes off; second Linda Sousa, 23 minutes off; third, Mary Quinn, 37 minutes off; fourth, Bruce Watson, 53 minutes off; and tied for fifth place Ken Knowles and Bill Larzelere, 1 hour and 22 minutes off.
More than 370 tickets were sold, according to organizer Judy Shea. Net proceeds of about $1,400 will be used toward the purchase of new medical equipment for the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.
