The Saturday night event will be at Nicola’s on Main with a glitzy and glamorous theme — Hollywood Nights Red Carpet.
Most girls who spoke with the News said they had been planning — finding the dress, making appointments for hair and nails — since at least spring break, if not before. The boys seemed to wait a little longer. Junior Mike Clark said he began getting ready last week.
“It’s kind of hectic,” Clark said. “I’m not quite ready for it myself.”
Juniors Christian Blazer and Jordan Favro, who were trying on their tuxedos Tuesday afternoon, were a little more prepared. They said all they have left to do is get haircuts and pick up their dates’ corsages.
“The girls all say they are stressed out,” Favro said.
The prom is organized by the junior class, but juniors and seniors may attend.
Most students the News spoke with said they plan on attending the after-prom party. This year’s theme is Casino Night. The event will feature casino games, snacks, prize give-aways, and most important, will give students a chance to enjoy the special night in an alcohol-free atmosphere.
“The ‘All-Nighter’ is a chance to give our young people a wonderful memory, keep them alive, build a tradition and provide them a stress-free alternative,” said Student Support Counselor Tina Clark in a press release. “They don’t have to make a decision to drink or not to drink ... parents will know where their students are, what they are doing and that they are safe while having the time of their lives.”
This year, Tupper Lake High School cancelled its after-prom party because of a lack of interest, organizers said.
“I think it was a really bad idea,” said junior Jenna Lester of Tupper’s decision. Lester is on the prom committee and said she plans on attending the after-prom party. Junior Bethany Valenze agreed.
“They should keep a closer eye on their children,” she said. “They should definitely have one for the kids that are interested.”
Although most agreed prom is second to Winter Carnival as the year’s most anticipated event, students are still excited about this weekend’s festivities.
“It’s not huge,” Clark said. “But it’s fun. Everyone looks forward to it.”
