NEW YORK (AP) — The Fire Department says about 75 people have been evacuated from a Manhattan subway station and two neighboring buildings due to a nearby fire.
The FDNY says one person has been taken to a hospital for treatment of minor smoke inhalation.
The department says there also were initial reports of carbon monoxide at the scene.
MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz says the smoke was reported in the station at 34th Street and Seventh Avenue due to a nearby manhole fire. The FDNY says it appeared to be a transformer fire.
Ortiz says 1, 2 and 3 trains have been bypassing the station.
Traffic also was hampered in the area due to fire and utility vehicles.
The incident began around noon Wednesday.
