NEW YORK (AP) — A Queens mother has been arrested in the fatal beating of her 2-year-old daughter.
Authorities said Wednesday that 28-year-old Ashley Diaz was arrested on murder and assault charges in the death of Kevasia Edwards. It wasn't clear if she had a lawyer.
Police say the toddler was found unconscious and unresponsive in her Far Rockaway home Monday night after a 911 call from a neighbor. The child was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Authorities say autopsy results showed the child had multiple bruises about her body, rib injuries and head trauma.
If convicted, Diaz faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
