Runners beat the heat in Tupper
May 21, 2012 - Morgan Ryan
Congratulations to all those runners who braved the heat yesterday in the Tupper Lake Marathon/Half-Marathon. Temperatures were in the mid- to upper-80s most of the day, which makes for some tough running on a paved surface.
I was happy to see that Joe Merrihew was able to successfully defend his title in the half-marathon. He owns this race. No one else has ever won the Tupper Lake Half Marathon. Of course this was only the second year of having the race, but still.
Lou Reuter took this picture of the start of the race:
The race results can be found here.
Meanwhile, over in Wisconsin, the Green Bay Marathon was stopped after two and a half hours of record temperatures that sent several runners to the hospital because of extreme heat problems.
I sure hope it cools down a bit for next week’s Jenkins Mountain Scramble at the Paul Smith’s VIC. I’m not liking this trend of overheated running races this year.
