Skating away in Lake Placid

September 14, 2009 - Christie Sausa
Hello All! Welcome to the Lake Placid News' skating blog! Why the name, you may ask? That is a funny story, actually. The editor Rich was trying to help me decide on a name for the blog. It had to be catchy, but still convey what the blog was about- skating and Lake Placid. Finally, he came up with the name Skating Away because of a musician named Jethro Tull. He sang a song called "Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day", and the first words of the song title sounded like the perfect blog name!! That is the story of how the blog name came about....thank you Jethro Tull! ??The purpose of this blog is to inform readers of the unique skating-related happenings in Lake Placid. There is never a dull moment in this Olympic town, and I hope to capture that in this blog. Being a skater myself (figure skating: 12 years, speed skating:5 years) I have a strong passion for everything skating, and will do my best to provide news, photos, interviews, and other related content on a regular basis.

In case you are wondering, here is a little bit about me; I am a competitive figure skater and speed skater in Lake Placid, and have been operating a skating blog of my own (www.lakeplacidskater.blogspot.com) for 2 years, which has gained worldwide readership. I am a student at North Country Community College, a member of the Lake Placid Kiwanis club, a future official for US Figure Skating, and a contributor for the Lake Placid News and other online publications. I love everything Lake Placid and skating!

So, welcome to the blog; watch for the next post!
