I knew the snowpack would be pretty thin, but I had no idea it would be as thin as this picture shows. Granted, I took the picture toward the bottom of the trail and on a south-facing slope, but still, this is pretty bad for February in the Adirondacks. Have to wonder if we are ever going to get snow this winter. Not looking good so far. Conditions were pretty decent for trail running though. It was about 15 degrees out - and dropping - so the ground was frozen solid, which made for a nice grip into the ice-covered trail with microspikes. The streams were mostly frozen over, although there were a few crossings where I could hear running water beneath the ice bridge I was stomping down upon (not a good sign). The snow got deeper the closer I got to the dam, making for nice smooth trip to the turnaround point to head back down. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
