"Rise" figure skating movie coming to Lake Placid

June 16, 2011 - Christie Sausa
In 1961, a tragedy struck the figure skating family when a plane carrying the entire US World Figure Skating Team crashed on the way to the World Championships. Now a documentary has been made to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the tragedy, offering a tribute to the skaters, coaches, and officials that perished in the plane crash. It also takes a look at the skating world after the crash, and how this tragedy gave "rise" to the sport as it is today.

The Lake Placid Film Forum will be showcasing Rise on June 17th at 6 pm at the Palace Theatre. Check out the movie trailer in the "Blog Links" section.
