Skating updates-October/November edition

October 30, 2010 - Christie Sausa
Hi All,

It's been a busy (and occasionally snowy) few weeks in Lake Placid, but there are some fun updates to report about skating, both figure and speed.

*Join Scott Hamilton, newly crowned Olympic Men's Champion Evan Lysacek, Olympic Silver medalist Sasha Cohen, and the rest of the Stars on Ice cast for their 25th Anniversary Show! On November 27th, Stars on Ice returns to the Olympic Center after a year-long hiatus with new cast members and more skating fun! Scott will preside over a show that includes skating stars past and present. For more information, including ticket prices and full cast, visit the Stars on Ice website (link below).

*The Skating Club of Lake Placid skaters made their club proud at the North Atlantic Regional Championships, which was held in Lake Placid October 1st through 5th. Several skaters qualified for the final round of competition, and a few advanced to Junior National Competition. Brandon Amaral qualified in the Juvenile Boy's Category, and Luke West captured the bronze medal to advance in the Intermediate Men's Category. Both skaters will be competing in the Junior National Championships, being held this December in Salt Lake City.

*The Speed Skating Season will kick off in Lake Placid this December with the Lake Placid Ice Marathon on the 18th and 19th. This event is hosted by Marathon Skating International in conjunction with the Lake Placid Speed Skating Club. For more information, visit the LPSSC website (link below).

*Lake Placid Speed Skating Club member and Olympic Oval alumni Trevor Marsicano raced last weekend at the 2011 US Single Distance Championships/Fall World Cup qualifier in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He earned spots on the Fall World Cup team in the 1000 M, 1500 M, and 5000 M, and his first race on the World Cup circuit will be in Heerenveen, Netherlands from November 12th through 14th. For more information on race schedules and results, visit US Speed Skating's website (link below).

As always, you can read more about Lake Placid skating news on my blog, Lake Placid Skater.
