Skating and Holiday Strolling
December 11, 2009 - Christie Sausa
It's that time of year again for Lake Placid to host it"s "Holiday Stroll". Beginning Friday local merchants are showcasing their wares, hoping to convince holiday shoppers to buy here rather than big box. Many shops and restaurants are remaining open later and offering free samples!
Friday night holiday strollers will be skating away at the Olympic Center's 1932 rink from 6:30-8:30. The Skating Club of Lake Placid will showcase their skating talent with a brief presentation before the skate begins. Rentals will be available!
Saturday is the busiest day of the weekend; a farmer's market at Lake Placid Center for the Arts will take place from 10 am until 2 pm. From noon until 1 pm, Santa will arrive at Mids park in downtown Lake Placid to greet strollers, and at 1 pm until 2:30 pm, children can stop at the High Peaks Resort to create holiday crafts. Also from noon until 2:30 pm, strollers can stop at restaurants on Main Street for "tastings" of each unique cuisine.
To wrap up the day, Santa will once again be present at Mids Park at 5 pm for the Holiday Tree Lighting, featuring the Lake Placid High School chorus.
In the mood for a holiday movie? On 11 am on Sunday, there will be a free showing of "Elf" starring Will Ferrell at the Palace Theatre on Main Street.
The fun won't stop this weekend; hopefully next week the oval will be opening just in time for the holidays!
P.S.- A big THANK YOU for those of you who voted for me in the Microsoft Winter Games Blogging Contest! I still haven't heard if I won or not....but I will certainly keep you informed. I appreciate your support!!
