Please help send me to Vancouver!

November 24, 2009 - Christie Sausa
As many of my friends and blog followers know, I am an Olympic fanatic. Ever since I saw Kristi Yamaguchi skate in the 1992 Olympics, I fell in love with the Olympics...and figure skating. I was determined to be the next great figure skater; the next Kristi Yamaguchi, Michelle Kwan, or Tara Lipinski.

In 1998, after I started skating, I came to Lake Placid. I immediately loved the town, and announced "I want to live here". Eventually my dream came true-in 2003 I moved here to pursue my figure skating dreams.

Along the way, I was introduced to another Olympic sport; speed skating. Although very different from figure skating (no sequins, music, or moves), speed skating helped me to be more fearless, athletic, and agile.

Although I was dedicated to my sport, my Olympic dreams were never fufilled. Until now.

In October, I entered the Microsoft Winter Games Blogging Contest on a whim, not really expecting to be chosen as a semi-finalist. Well, a few weeks ago, I received a call from a contest representative....who told me that I was a semi-finalist!

My first reaction was excitement (I was literally jumping up and down when I hung up the phone), and my second reaction was determination. I was going to do my very best to try to get to the Olympics. I suppose I should have specified which side of the ice I wanted to be on!

What does the grand prize entail, you may ask? Not only will I get a media pass for a week long visit to the Vancouver Games (including hotel accomodations and a transportation stipend), but I will also attend a technology convention in Las Vegas, where I will receive new technology including a laptop and software. How cool would that be??

However, to get to the next level and become a finalist, I need your help. Which semi finalist moves on is determined by votes. So please vote for me!! Here's how to vote:

1) go to the contest website (see link)

2) Click on the "Vote" button

3) Under the "Student" category, click the "Vote for me!" button. I am easy to recognize; I am the first one in the line-up, and the only female!

You can vote once per day per email address, so please remember to vote! The voting period is until the 29th of November. Nothing would thrill me more than the opportunity to report on the Olympics as a representative of Lake Placid!

I am so grateful to the media representatives who helped spread the word; US Figure Skating (check out the article in the links), the Lake Placid News, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, and News Channel 5. Of course, thanks also to my friends and family who are promoting like crazy and encouraging their friends to are the best!

I will keep everyone updated on what happens with my Olympic the meantime, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
